Platform Princess is Jacqueline Anyanwu’s online outlet, used to discuss the fashion industry in full. The minimalistic style blog allows her words, pristine photography and styling tips to take centre stage. Here she gives us the lowdown on the places to visit and more importantly, the music to be playing…
Favourite Places to Visit
Drop in for afternoon high tea or late night drinks and surround yourself with opulent baroque settings, perfect for any fashionista.
With one in New York and Paris, it was only a matter of time before London welcomed this trendy club. This year’s Grandlife ‘NY NY’ party (the hottest ticket in town) is being held there, giving it a (fashionable) royal seal of approval.
A great pit-stop and escape from the fashion frenzy. Pick up a gourmet burger or milkshake, as you’ll probably be used to surviving on snacks found in goody bags amongst the madness!
This British institution is a great site for tourists to visit during LFW. ‘Bright Young Things’ an initiative championing work of emerging designers, is showcased in their windows until the end of February. Young designers such as J.W Anderson recently being stocked also shows their dedication to encouraging the next generation of British talent.
Fashion Week Schedule
Pre-LFW a tradition of mine is to kick it off with a party the night before. This season I attended the Bjorn Borj underwear party, where Robyn and Coco Sumner performed!
Typical Day Plan:
9am – Wake up. I have to admit I’m usually up at 9am instead of 7am, having been out the night before. It’s almost become a tradition to miss the opening show. But, there’s many more where they came from, as I’ll be back-to-back all day.
11-3pm – Back-to-back shows and the combination of taxi-foot-bus hopping between Somerset House and Vauxhall Fashion Scout for shows.
4-6Ppm – Usually downtime where there’s a lull in shows. Most shows are back at 6pm, so I try to take in some food (or a vitamin water) or catch a presentation in the Portico rooms.
6-8pm – Last shows of the day.
8.30pm – Off home to edit photos/upload coverage to my site. In theory, I try to tell myself that this is what I will do (being the professional that I am obviously) but the post show parties are always hard to stay away from.
10pm – Off to party!
Designers To See
I love that London is known for its edginess. The ‘haute-coiffure’ known for his hair-dresses is the only off-schedule designer to pull crowds in their hundreds and include fashion royalty such as Daphne Guinness. Unfortunately he now shows in Paris, but is exhibiting some of his works inside Somerset Houses’ galleries.
I never miss a Louise Gray show. Her wonderfully colourful and quirky designs make her the darling of London’s quirky fashion and art scene.
New talent at it’s finest. Even though she is only in her second season, Charlie is definitely one to watch. Inspired by her favourite designers (The Antwerp Six) her work is minimalistically beautiful by nature, and a true reflection of herself.
Key LFW Look
I’m definitely a heels girl. This LFW I haven’t planned my outfits, like most people do in advance. I’m pretty chilled and am very much into casual chic; so I’ll probably be wearing baggy jeans (a first for me) or printed trousers and Louboutin heels.
