Head of Production, Simone Ospelt and Head of Designer Recruitment, Laylah Clough, invited the designer into LOOKK’s brand-new office to get to know him a little better and to learn more about his outlandish collection. The girls also offered him some crucial advice whilst trying his garments out for size.

Taking on board every word, Bharti is eager to get his name on the fashion radar but is in no hurry at the moment. Concentrating on his designs and how to reach a wider market, he’s planning a tour of Europe to deliver his follow-up collection, “I want a different way to promote my work and I think by getting out there and doing an exhibition or a tour around tradeshows, I’ll be able to connect more with my customers and deliver a more personal touch.”
The sincere designer is clearly full of ambition and after having a close look at his graduate collection, ‘Architectural Gothic Expressionism’ its evident how much time and effort he whole-heartedly pours into each garment.
Having interned at both Giles Deacon and Paris fashion house, Maxime Simoens, Bharti managed to gain essential skills and experiences, which he drew upon when completing his own work. “London is full of people ready to intern, whereas in Paris you have to get paid, so they choose their interns much more carefully.” And it was in the French capital, where he was able to expand on his crucial pattern cutting techniques and transfer them into his own collection. “I love pattern cutting, it’s an area of design I’m most interested in.”
His collection, which landed him a well-deserved place in the final six of the EVOQUE Fashion Awards, where he showcased his work to over 600 people on Friday evening, was based upon Zara Hadid’s architectural drawings and collages from abstract artist, Mark Bradford. “I have tried to create a collection with balanced chaos of asymmetry and structure.”
Using a mix of leather, silk and wools within the garments, Bharti has created little restrictions when it comes to who will like, wear or buy his work and ensures that every fabric or finishing he chooses is of the best quality.
There are no shortcuts when it comes to Bharti’s creative ideas, future plans and distinctive designs and though it may take him a little longer to achieve everything he wants to, every single second will count in the end.
