Each of the four main fashion weeks has a synonymous style. New York has structure, London is experimental, Milan masters glamour and Paris owns effortless chic. It was never going to be long before New Zealand’s Fashion Week developed its own signature. This season has witnessed the stepping out of fashion’s effortlessly cooler, younger sister and she’s a bit of a sultry, party girl at heart. Here’s our pick of the onlylabels to keep on your radar.
COOP
Making their debut at NZFW this season, the label dressed the coolest party girl in town. Their muse was graceful and effortless but with a touch of attitude. The story goes like this: Lauren and Alexander, the design duo behind the label, fell for the same man. Two broken hearts and many a flared temper later, they found a mutual ground in their love for fashion. The rest is history. The label is already stocked in New Zealand and widely available in Australia so fingers crossed they make it across the pond soon.
Jimmy D
Having heard so much about Jimmy D and never actually discovering any of the designer’s creations, it was love at first sight. His gothic/punk style was realised through androgynous, black-eyed models; some hitting the catwalk in oversized, flowing and frayed-hemmed dresses whilst others were nipped in at the waist with harnessed, leather belts. The result? A highly desirable collection epitomising the label’s laid-back, rocky vibe.
Stolen Girlfriends Club
A firm favourite at LOOKK HQ. The trio, Luke Harwood, Dan Gosling and Marc Moore pulled out all the stops this season, showcasing their menswear collection in a pop-up style display whilst guests took to their seats. The crowd had the surprise of their life when models sporting puffy 80’s ball gowns began stripping to Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’. The real collection was then revealed. The staples were all evident: sexy cocktail dresses, printed denim and faux fur jackets to update the SGC girl’s wardrobe. They already have stockists all over the world but the brand is rumoured to be setting up shop in New York to ensure we all get our fix.  www.stolengirlfriendsclub.com
