From London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson announcing the capital’s fashion and Olympic projects, to taking up ‘Anna Wintour spotting’ on the FROW as a hobby, its obvious why London is the fresh fashion week that always delivers.
We wholeheartedly agree with LFW Daily journalist, Julia Robson, who said “it [was] highly refreshing to see designers who remind you why the city is way ahead of the curve.” So we’ve put together a little London Fashion Week roundup, lassoing the LOOKK team’s best and most exciting moments from the past week in the capital, just for you.
First to the Frow…
Sir Colin McDowell over at the Acne S/S 12 show. That mischievous grin and relaxed demeanour is exactly why he’s not only our favourite writer but our favourite frow’er of LFW.
Best LOOKKs…
There are a few LFW brands that we particularly love at LOOKK HQ, Mary Katrantzou, Richard Nicoll and Meadham Kirchhoff to name a few, but there’s no one we love more than Jonny Johansson and the wonderful team at Swedish brand Acne. We’re pretty obsessed, to say the least.
This star-punctured leather tee in tangerine is a perfect piece for summer. We’re saving up already.
Second would be this simple but gorgeously timeless look from Michael Van Der Ham. Printed silk, yes please.
And finally over to Teatum Jones, whose nonchalant but graceful display showed off several ethereal looks. This was a definite favourite, perfect for Gatsby-style, lazy summer days.
Best Show…
From the moment the kid’s birthday-party-style invite popped through the letterbox at LOOKK HQ, we knew we were in for a treat. For the rest of the team who didn’t attend the Meadham Kirchhoff show, managing to huddle around a mac and watch it being live-streamed was perfect. Never expecting the show to include dancing dolls and pretty ballerinas, and of course Miss Wintour on the front row, it was by far the most unexpected, exciting and truly inspiring display all week. We tip our hats to you Mr Meadham and Mr Kirchhoff.
Best Off-Schedule Show…
Malene Oddershede Bach, Alice Lee, Shao Yen and Phoebe English all displayed unique and highly individual collections at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Ones to Watch display on Friday evening and gave their jam-packed crowd an outstanding show. Malene Oddershede Bach infused structured cocktails dresses with vivid colours, alongside printed versions in a mix of florals and snakeskin. Alice Lee added a little more understated glamour but each piece was technically refined with woven leather. Shao Yen delivered asymmetric dresses with torn-away sides, adding a daring touch to the catwalk, whilst Phoebe English used tight pleating in milk and black to create a bold statement for spring.
Best LFW Unveiling…
Fashion illustrator Spiros Halaris’ twitter statement “A guilty conscience needs to confess. Fashion made me hardcore,” forced us to probe whether there was anything he needed to confess about his project with The Mayfair Hotel and London Fashion Week. “I need to confess how thrilled I am to see my illustrations coming to life. I think the rebellious notion behind the project was to make a fabulous impact and to add a special illustrative touch to LFW.”
Though anticipating a more provocative response from the illustrator, his window displays gave tourists and locals alike a taste of fashion week and were the perfect way of celebrating the capital in style.
London on her mind…
Seen at The Kingston MA ‘Bodylab’ show was this little lady whose hair band was celebrating London and shouting it out loud. Bravo brave girl.
And lastly what would fashion be without a freebie or two…
Here’s our Editor Laura Naylor and Head of Production, Simone Ospelt enjoying a well-deserved berry flavoured Kopparberg. Scrumptious!
Rounding up S/S 12 has clarified why this season has well and truly mapped London as the place to be for homegrown fun, frolics and fresh fashion. Bring on A/W 12 London!
