Dear Fashion Industry…

The big, fat fashion industry.

The fashion market nowadays is dominatated by big corporations. These verticals and big brands are the ones that make the money in fashion. Professionally transforming new trends into products, simplifing them to meet mass appeal, producing them in unbelievably large quantities under varying working conditions. They shade our realities with huge marketing budgets and push their products to the market via streamlined retail-networks.

But wait a minute … something’s odd. Where do all these ideas for trends come from? In most cases these corporations didn’t come up with the original trends. The trends come from young designers working in their small studios, from fashion students around the world or from creatives on the streets of our cities.

It’s kinda frustrating …

Imagine, you just finished fashion school and are urging to become a professional fashion designer. It’s all planned out. A pile of designs waiting to become the perfect fashion products, the ideal label name already found, dreaming of fashion weeks and runway shows.
But reality sinks in hard: Most of these aspiring designers fail fulfilling their dreams. Not because of their lack of talent, but due to the complexity of the market.

The fashion industry is a pure game of numbers and is insanely hard to handle, not speaking of taking it to a professional level.

Let’s take the production of fashion as an example. It’s simple math: In the case of most young fashion designers, your quantities of production are low. Which leads to the consequence that industry-level manufacturers will not start to work with you. Therefore, you will have to produce at a more expensive rate. So ultimately you have to choose to either lower the quality or raise the sales price. Both ways mean that less people will buy your products and you won’t have the resources for the next production round.

And the list of other examples is endless: Sourcing of the materials, finding production partners, building a network of shops who sell and customers who buy them.

In reality, most fail. In the end stands huge talent, never having the chance to live up to it’s potential.

So what if somebody changed the game?

… fundamentally.
… change it into something more fair and diverse.
… change it into something that mirrors the immense talent out there.

This is exactly where the model of Garmz steps in.
